Judy Steward has been teaching quilt classes since the mid-1990s. She loves watching her students’ eyes light up when a technique clicks and the joy of quilting takes hold.
She has given lectures and workshops across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri, and continues to travel to guilds throughout the region to share her knowledge and passion for the craft.
Judy is an accomplished quilter whose work has earned recognition at some of the most prestigious venues in the quilting world. Her quilts have been juried into the Houston International Quilt Festival and the American Quilter’s Society shows in both Paducah, Kentucky and Des Moines, Iowa. Most recently, she received the award for Best Domestic Machine Quilting at the Bosque Art Center quilt show for her quilt Friendship Hearts. Her quilt Fall Celebration earned Best Use of Color in the Quilters Treasure fabric challenge and traveled throughout the United States for a year.
Beyond the guild circuit, Judy has worked with Pellon — piecing, appliquéing, quilting, and editing projects for their website — and has had work published in Quilt-It Today magazine. She has also exhibited in a solo show in Waco, Texas and participated in numerous group art shows.
In October 2026, Judy will be teaching aboard a Stitchin’ Heaven cruise sailing from Los Angeles with stops in Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada.
Her most recent collaboration pairs her Double Wedding Ring quilt — made from thrift shop wedding dresses — with Jeffree Wyn Itrich’s novel The Wedding Dress Quilt. She is currently at work on a fan quilt to accompany Jeffree’s forthcoming book, The Mercy Quilt.
Judy’s designs have featured in books, calendars and quilting guild publications around the United States.
